Selection Criteria
The central question the individuals and committee members who will evaluate your application will ask is: “Will this company or organization solve real problems and build something people want or need?”

Beyond that question is an array of variables that influence the success of a business or other kind of entrepreneurial organization. Many of them may be unknown to you at this stage of your planning, and that’s okay. We ask that in your application, you demonstrate at least the following “knowns”; the “unknowns” will be part of the work you will do in the InnovationsLab.

Demonstrate in Application (Knowns)

  • Research done to date
  • Efficacy data
  • IP protection in process or anticipated
  • Entrepreneurially-minded founder
  • Faculty collaborator (for current student applicants)

Optional to Demonstrate (Unknowns)

  • CEO/management team
  • Target customer/application
  • Business model
  • Regulatory pathway
  • Required funding

All firms or other organaizations  must somehow be associated with members of the CEU community (e.g. students, faculty, or alumni).

In accelerator-speak “graduation” refers to when a start-up leaves an accelerator because it has obtained a certain measure of growth and/or financial success. CEU InnovationsLab is focused on graduating start-ups as early as possible.

Criteria for Graduation

  • Expansion beyond 5 full-time (onsite or virtual) staff
  • Proven, stable management team
  • Sufficient external financing
  • Strong sales
  • Pending liquidity event in the form of an acquisition or IPO

We review member start-ups every 6 months against the above criteria, along with other metrics.

Application Review
Faculty director, the dean of CEU Business School, members of the Innovation Project Faculty Oversight Committee (a CEU Business School entity), and relevant external advisors to the InnovationsLab will evaluate your application.

  • "I have been recently nominated as the Regional IT Manager for West Africa at Unilever. My CEU Business School education has been a key differentiator during an otherwise very competitive recruitment process. I would like to thank all my great peers of the 2013-14 cohort and the wonderful faculty at the B-School for the valuable learning experience I had during my time in BP."
