Henry A. Fernandez
Chairman and CEO
Henry Fernandez has been MSCI’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since 1998. He heads up the firm’s Executive Committee and is Chairman of MSCI’s Board of Directors.
Before leading MSCI’s transition to becoming a fully independent, stand-alone public company in 2009, Henry was a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for emerging markets product strategy, equity derivative sales and trading, mergers and acquisitions, worldwide corporate finance and mortgage finance for US financial institutions.
Prior to Morgan Stanley, Henry was founder and president of the private equity firm HispaniMedia. He also founded Ferco Partners, a private equity investment firm. From 1976 to 1979, he was a diplomat in the Nicaraguan Embassy in Washington, DC.
Henry serves on the boards of Georgetown University, the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, the Foreign Policy Association, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and the American Nicaraguan Foundation. He is a member emeritus of the Georgetown University College Board of Advisors; has served on the boards of the Trinity School, the Browning School and the Mexican Derivatives Exchange; and was Chair of the Advisory Council of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Henry has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Georgetown University. He pursued doctoral studies in economics at Princeton University and received his MBA from Stanford University.
Henry was featured in the November/December 2014 issue of the Journal of Indexes as one of the most influential people in the field of indexing and index-based investment.
