The event features a special presentation on Strategic Insider Trading in Foreign Exchange Markets by Peter Szilagyi, Associate Professor of Finance, Director of MSc in Finance program.

"Insider trading studies invariably focus on stock markets due to ease of use of surveillance techniques and the success of prosecutions. Prosecutions of insider trading in the world’s largest financial market – the foreign exchange market - are limited, with one recent exception: the 2015 prosecution of Australian bank trader Lukas Kamay and Australian Bureau of Statistics analyst Christopher Hill for their use of pre-release Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data to profit from movements in the spot Australia-United States dollar (AUD/USD). The Kamay and Hill conviction provides a natural experiment to investigate the actions and impacts of insider traders in one of the least understood financial markets. Our results show that insiders act very strategically to mask their activities, which makes it very difficult to detect their actions. Indeed, Kamay and Hill were never caught by regulators, but instead busted by their own broker – and that broker is now suing his own firm because he was unceremoniously fired for whistleblowing."

  • "I have been recently nominated as the Regional IT Manager for West Africa at Unilever. My CEU Business School education has been a key differentiator during an otherwise very competitive recruitment process. I would like to thank all my great peers of the 2013-14 cohort and the wonderful faculty at the B-School for the valuable learning experience I had during my time in BP."
