  • he “real” major business options and strategies in energy for Europe in light of recent events

The Guest Lecturers:

Dr. Klaus Barbknecht is a Member of the Executive Board of VNG – Verbundnetz Gas AG (Leipzig, Germany), one of the leading energy companies in Germany. He has worked at VNG for over 20 years in a variety of functions, gaining top management experience in the fields of legal affairs, strategic coordination, international gas procurement, international gas sales, international gas trading, international gas market sales and portfolio management. He is Managing Director of VNG –Erdgascommerz GmbH (Leipzig, Germany) and a member of the Supervisory Boards of several VNG subsidiaries, as well as gas distributing companies. Dr. Barbknecht also is a member of several German, as well as international organizations. For instance, he is a Member of the Finance Committee of the World Energy Council. Dr. Barbknecht is also an Honorary Professor at TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Freiberg, Germany) and Visiting Professor of Practice at Brandeis International Business School (Boston, USA).

Prof. Dr. Arpad von Lazar, Professor Emeritus of International Affairs at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University; currently he is Senior Advisor of Verbundnetz Gas AG (Leipzig, Germany) and Senior Advisor to the Dean of the International Business School of Brandeis University (Boston, USA). Prof. von Lazar also is an Honorary Founding Member of the International Advisory Board of the Instituto de Empresa [IE] in Madrid, Spain. He served as Senior Advisor to US and European corporations in the fields of finance, energy and trade policy, including Chevron, ExxonMobil, Skaarup Shipping, ENI/Agip, Bechtel International, Exxon Mining and others. He worked on various projects for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the EBRD, and other international institutions. He has served as advisor to international financial institutions, for example Chase Investors, Citigroup, Bank of Boston, Oppenheim etc. Prof. Emeritus Von Lazar is author of numerous books and articles on international business, energy, and environmental policy management. He is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Club of Rome.
