The Empiricus Scholarship Program is designed for high-achieving students with
a quantitative background from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan.

Empiricus Capital Management is a Hong Kong investment firm. The scholarships
cover partial tuition of up to EUR 5,000 on the MSc in Finance, and do not include
a stipend for living or other expenses.

Recipients who perform well in the MSc in Finance may be considered for
an internship in the investment firm's Beijing or Hong Kong office.

To be considered for an Empiricus scholarship, applicants must

  • hold a bachelor’s (or higher) degree from a reputable institution, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, in a quantitative field such as science, computer science, mathematics, engineering or economics
  • have a GMAT or equivalent GRE score of 600 or higher, or achieve an equivalent score on CEU's online mathematics test
  • demonstrate keen interest in trading, investments and financial markets
  • be the national of the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan.

The scholarship committee may accept CEU’s online mathematics test in place of the GMAT or GRE at its discretion. The test may be taken by appointment at any time after we have received your application.

We are no longer accepting Empiricus scholarship applications for September 2017.

To apply please submit the following:

  • a completed MSc in Finance application
  • a competitive GMAT or equivalent GRE score, if applicable
  • a statement of purpose that indicates that you wish to be considered for an Empiricus scholarship.

The scholarship committee will consider the applicant’s personal skills that may be relevant to working at an investment firm, such as applied mathematics and statistics courses previously taken, knowledge of programming languages etc.

The scholarship committee meets monthly and evaluates applications as they arrive.

  • "I have been recently nominated as the Regional IT Manager for West Africa at Unilever. My CEU Business School education has been a key differentiator during an otherwise very competitive recruitment process. I would like to thank all my great peers of the 2013-14 cohort and the wonderful faculty at the B-School for the valuable learning experience I had during my time in BP."
