Joint roundtable of CEU Business School and the John von Neumann Computer Society on April 6 at 6 PM in CEU Business School.

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” wrote the prominent British science fiction writer and futurist Arthur C. Clarke in 1973. Many of us remember one of his characters called HAL, an intelligent robot, visually represented by a red camera eye in the film ‘2001: a Space Odyssey’, which controls the systems of a spacecraft and interacts with the ship's crew. Robots, especially sophisticated and intelligent ones, capture our imagination easily. Robots have been with us for a long time. They are an integral part of our economy. Growth figures are impressive: according to the International Federation of Robotics, global shipments of industrial robots increased by more than 60 percent between 2000 and 2012. We can expect an even more dramatic explosion later in this century. This trend can be explained easily: robots are getting more and more flexible and versatile; their intelligence is growing and costs are shrinking. Robots also don’t get tired, do not ask for promotions and raises, and do not go on strike. Their technical progress and how they also appear everywhere in our life are fascinating. Beside factory production, robots may change urban life, transportation, healthcare, our homes and many other activities associated with modern society.

Our roundtable focuses on innovation in robotics and its impact on the economy and our lives. University professors, researchers, managers and entrepreneurs will speak about key technological and application trends, describe the present state of the art in robotics and explain what we can expect in the near future.

  • "I have been recently nominated as the Regional IT Manager for West Africa at Unilever. My CEU Business School education has been a key differentiator during an otherwise very competitive recruitment process. I would like to thank all my great peers of the 2013-14 cohort and the wonderful faculty at the B-School for the valuable learning experience I had during my time in BP."
